Don't leave the site until you've completed a 15 or 30 minute observation period.
Make sure you know if you have to return for a second appointment.
Make sure you get a vaccination card.
What should I do with my vaccination card? Keep your vaccine card, and take a photo of it and email it to yourself, so you have it for reference. It's important to know which vaccine you got, when you got it, and which batch the shot came from. Share the information on the card with your primary card provider, but do not post photos of it online. You can also get proof of vaccination in California here.
Will I have any Side Effects? Some side effects are common, such as flu-like symptoms and a sore arm, and generally go away after a day or two. Rest and hydration can help. If you are uncomfortable, Tylenol can help, at a dose that your doctor would normally recommend. Serious side effects are very rare. However, if you are concerned, contact your doctor or call 911. You can also report your reaction to the CDC.
Am I Protected Yet? The vaccine takes about 2 weeks after your final shot to be fully effective. Stay fully cautious for that time. After that waiting period, getting vaccinated provides a lot of protection against COVID, but does not guaranty that you will not contract it or pass it to others. The CDC guidance is to continue being careful in public (wearing masks, washing hands, avoiding touching your face, socially distancing in public) and to stay home/get tested if you experience any symptoms. However, some activities are considered unsafe for unvaccinated people, but safe once fully vaccinated (2 weeks after last dose), such as relaxing some social distancing rules between 2 households of fully vaccinated people.
